Follow the country code and, in particular, please close gates behind you and park considerately.

Please make sure you have a rod licence (available from the Environment Agency website or the Post Office)

for the River Eden and tributaries:

Salmon: Close 15th October to 14th January

Migratory Trout: Close 1st October to 31st March

Brown Trout: Close 1st October to 14th March

Grayling: Close 15th March to 15th June

Under 18s:

Can fish for half the tokens if accompanied by an adult using the full number.

Protect our native crayfish!

Our native white-clawed crayfish is a rare and protected species. Nationally important populations are found in the Rivers Lyvennet and Leith, and in Scandal Beck and the Upper Eden tributaries.

But the populations in these rivers face a major threat: American Signal crayfish and the disease they carry - crayfish plague. The plague can be spread as spores from water where the signals live, even if the signals themselves aren't moved - and we'd like your help to prevent this happening.

Please DISINFECT or THOROUGHLY DRY all of your equipment and waders before fishing in the Eden catchment. This will kill off plague spores and prevent the disease from entering our rivers.

Easy steps:

Wash mud off waders and kit on site and

Dry thoroughly or

Use a hypochlorite solution (i.e. domestic bleach), or an iodophor disinfectant (available from farm shops) and either to wipe down or immerse kit in - minimum contact time of 5 minutes. Rinse with clean water.

These measures will also prevent other fish diseases from spreading!
