Beat 24: River Irthing

3 Tokens
Brown Trout, Grayling

One kilometre of left bank fishing

This beat covers the last 1km of the river Irthing before it runs into the river Eden just below Warwick Bridge. Despite being a good beat it is not heavily fished, so there should be some very good sport with brown trout as well as plenty of grayling

Beat 9: River Irthing

2 Tokens
Brown Trout, Possible Salmon

One kilometre of left bank fishing

The River Irthing drains the area around Spadeadam, in the Northumberland National Park. It flows south west to confluence with the Eden near Warwick Bridge.
The Irthing forms the border between Cumbria and Northumberland, and the Roman border of Hadrian’s Wall runs along much of the river’s length. From the late 13th century, this area was a battlefield, with raiding, arson, kidnapping, murder and extortion being common. Family feuds and violence were a way of life. Hopefully your fishing will be much less eventful.

A very peaty water, the Irthing runs the colour of black coffee, or Theakstons Old Peculier, (depending on your preference) throughout the year.
