Beat 7: River Caldew: Millhouse
2 Tokens
Brown Trout, Occasional Salmon
The River Caldew flows from the fells around Caldbeck and the northern flanks of the Skiddaw Massif, (John Peel country), continuing north to Carlisle where it joins the Eden.
The bouldery substrate of this section of the Caldew creates dazzling riffles punctuated by deep silty pools. Wading can be hazardous among the slippery boulders. This beat was recently coppiced to enhance the river habitat quality and improve the fishery.

Beat 12: River Caldew: Linewath
2 Tokens
Brown Trout
Nearly one kilometre of single bank fishing
Set amongst stunning scenery of the Lake District National Park, in the shadows of Carrock and Bowscale Fell. A cracking spot for a walk or a picnic!

Beat 20 : River Caldew, How-gill
2 Tokens
Brown Trout
1100m of right bank fishing
This is a fantastic section of the Caldew, which has been left largely untouched. Access is difficult in parts and there isn’t that much casting space but there are some intriguing pools and runs, with both wide and narrow sections.
STOCKS: This section has not been frequently fished but should have some decent, ‘very wild’ brown trout, and perhaps even the occasional salmon!
USEFUL INFORMATION: Another 3km up the road is the village of Hesket Newmarket, where there is a pub and village store, or alternatively on the B5305 heading towards Sebergham there’s the Sour Nook pub which serves food.

Beat 21: River Caldew, Newlands Beat
2 Tokens
Brown Trout
900m of right bank fishing
This is most certainly difficult and challenging fishing and not for the faint hearted! The banks are steep and it's quite heavily wooded. We'd recommend you fish with a friend: however the wildness and tranquillity of the area should make up for the difficult access.
STOCKS: There are certainly a few Brown Trout around and some decent specimens have been seen at the very top of the beat.
USEFUL INFORMATION: Another 2km up the road is the village of Hesket Newmarket, where there is a pub and village shop, or alternatively on the B5305 heading towards Sebergham there’s the Sour Nook pub which serves food.

Beat 22: River Caldew, Hesket Bridge
1 Token
Brown Trout
800m of single right bank riverbank fishing
This beat runs from Hesket Bridge upstream for 800m or so, this part of the river is heavily affected by flow and rainfall. Just above the beat part of the river diverts underground for several km and does not rejoin the river till further down.
STOCKS: Mainly small brownies and juvenile fish but plenty have been seen.
USEFUL INFORMATION: This section of the river runs extremely low in the summer so is more suitable for the start and end of the season or after long periods of rain in the summer.
